I dreamed I was at the house I grew up in and there was a family gathering.  I went into the kitchen and my sister was eating a hamburger. I made a sandwich and was looking for the mayonnaise. I grabbed a bottle off the stove and squeezed in on my sandwich , but realized it was not mayonnaise. After realizing that, I thought to myself, maybe this is not good for me.

Some Thoughts To Ponder:

First of all, anytime you have a dream, you should ask a few questions:

#1 Is this dream from God, myself, or Satan (the enemy)?

Dreams that are full of light, color, and joy or peace are usually from God.

#2 Is the dream about me or someone else?

A question to ask to find out if it is about you or not is this.  If you take yourself out of the dream, does the dream fall apart?  In other words, are you the main focus or character in the dream. 

In this dream, if I take myself out of the dream, there is no purpose for the dream.  There would still be a family gathering and my sister would still be in the kitchen eating a burger, but beyond that, there would not be anything else significant happening.   So, the dream was about me or involved me.

#3  If it is from God, why did he allow me to have this dream?

#4  What is the purpose or context of the dream?

I was putting something on my sandwich that I was not supposed to partake in or that could hurt me.  Something that I was able to do, would not benefit me.

#5  Is this about me or someone else?

Obviously, this dream was about me and my future.

#5  What can I learn from this?

Typically, when God gives you a dream, it is going to be full of bright color and leave you with a sense of peace and joy, which are fruits of the Spirit. 

In this particular dream, I was with family, we were eating,  and enjoying a good time.  In making a myself a sandwich, I was refreshing myself.   

The whole context of the dream is that I was about to do something foolish or that was not God’s best in my life.

I Googled the word “Mayonnaise”, and of course I came up with recipes and ingredients.

However, as I began thinking about the word “Mayonnaise”, something occured to me.

Sometimes, when God speaks to us, he uses word puns, or words from our culture that we are aware of. 

 In Judges 7, starting in verse 13, it states:

Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend about a dream.  “I had a dream,” he was saying. “A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed.”  His friend responded, “This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands.”  When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed down and worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel and called out, “Get up! The LORD has given the Midianite camp into your hands.”

Gideon knew exactly what the dream meant. 

Verse 11:

The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”

Gideon was threshing wheat….He was a baker.  He was going to bake bread. 

Gideon knew that God would answer his prayers and help them in battle.

I eat Mayonnaise on most of my sandwiches, so God was warning me of something I was not supposed to do.  He did it through a dream.
