Treasure and Oil: The Wisdom of Stewardship

Some of my favorite scriptures on money:

Proverbs 22:7

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.

Proverbs 21:20

There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.

2 Corinthians 9:7

Remember this, the person who sows sparingly will aslo reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously.

Proverbs 15:4

The house of the righteous has great wealth…

Proverbs 3:9-10

Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest; THEN your barns will be completely filled, and your vats overflow with new wine.

Proverbs 3:27-28

When it is in your power, don’t withhold good from the one it belongs to. Don’t say to your neighbor, “Go away. Come back later. I will give it tomorrow”–when it is there with you.

Key Truth:

God calls us to wisdom in stewardship. The wise person stores, prepares, and preserves. The foolish person consumes without thought of tomorrow. This applies to time, money, spiritual life, relationships, and opportunities.

Reflection:

What treasure is in your dwelling? (Possession: Automobiles, homes, garage full of stuff, clothes, furniture, savings, investments, and on and on.

Are you storing oil? Or, are you spending without any thought for tomorrow.

Wise People:

  1. Tithe on their income
  2. Save money
  3. Build for the future
  4. Keeps spiritual oil through devotions with God
  5. Stores peace and patience in their household and relationships
  6. Help others with their resources

Prayer Point:

Lord, teach me to be a wise steward. Help me store what matters–spiritually, financially, and emotionally.  May my life be a reflection of you God.
